Circular Economy Initiatives
What Is a Circular Economy?
The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at COP15 in December 2022, set specific targets including the 2050 Vision of “a world living in harmony with nature” and the 2030 Mission to “halt and reverse biodiversity loss to put nature on a path to recovery,” also known as “Nature Positive.” The circular economy (recycling-oriented economy) concept is essential to achieving these goals.
A circular economy is a socioeconomic system that seeks to maximize added value while ensuring the efficient and cyclical use of resources at every stage.
About Our Circular Economy Business Model
We collect spent chromium plating effluent from plating and surface treatment factories as “specially controlled industrial waste: chromium-containing strongly acidic waste liquid.” While other industrial waste processors dispose of this waste through landfilling or incineration, we are able to return it to the chromic trioxide manufacturing process for reuse.
Chromic acid is a critical material that underpins both daily life and economic activity. By increasing the volume of plating effluent collected and raising recycling rates, we can strengthen our supply chain from an economic security perspective.
As Japan’s only chromium manufacturer, we are working to build a recycling-oriented society, and with the finite nature of the earth’s resources in mind, we will continue to develop our circular economy business model.
