Phosphonium Salts

Phosphonium salts are a type of onium salt and are compounds with numerous distinctive characteristics. Applications include phase-transfer catalysts, alkylation reaction catalysts, nitrilization reaction catalysts, catalysts for the synthesis of ethers, and sulfide synthesis catalysts. They are used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and general industrial chemicals. The properties of phosphonium salts are also utilized in antistatic agents, epoxy resin curing catalysts, and electrolytic solutions for electrolytic capacitors. Particularly with regard to epoxy curing catalysts, superior catalysts have been developed in terms of curing speed, flowability, and prevention of metal corrosion.
In addition, some phosphonium salts possess a broad antimicrobial spectrum against bacteria, filamentous fungi, yeast, algae, and other organisms, and application development is underway for uses including antimicrobial polymers and water treatment agents.
