We have developed fluorescent quantum dots that do not contain toxic elements, including cadmium and selenium. By achieving stability in aqueous dispersion and reproducibility of antibody modification, these quantum dots are expected to serve as nano-tools compatible with a wide range of fluorescence technologies, from fluorescence immunoassay to cell analysis.
